- According to new leaks, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be the highest-end device in the folding smartphone line.
- The upcoming phone is rumored to have an advanced triple-lens camera system, a first for any Galaxy device.
- In fact, it’s said that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have more advanced camera hardware than the flagship S10 5G — and that’s saying a lot.
- The new leak comes from @UniverseIce and SamMobile, who say Samsung has developed a new 48MP primary sensor for use in its upcoming smartphones.
- Currently, the most high-end cameras on Samsung phones have either 16MP or 20MP sensors with variable aperture (f/1.5 or f/2.4). This could be a 25mm unit with a 1-micron pixel size that would result in incredibly low light performance…
Galaxy Z Fold 4 Rumored Specs
The phone is also said to be powered by the new Exynos 9820 chipset, which is the latest generation of Samsung’s in-house processor.
It’s expected to be the first chipset to support 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, and presumably other connectivity standards. Finally, the Z Fold 4 is expected to have 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Apple's New iOS 16
Triple-lens Camera System
Now, let’s talk about the camera, which is the most notable difference between the Z Fold 4 and the S10 5G.
Samsung’s S10 5G is expected to have a quad-lens camera system, two of which are 12MP lenses with f/1.5 aperture and the other two being 16MP f/2.2 telephoto lenses.
The Z Fold 4, on the other hand, is expected to have a 48MP f/1.5 primary sensor, a 16MP f/1.9 ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 15MP f/2.2 telephoto lens.
Basically, the Z Fold 4 will have a more advanced 48MP f/1.5 main camera sensor and a 16MP f/1.9 ultra-wide camera.
The difference between these two sensors is the addition of an extra pixel on the main sensor and the addition of optical zoom on the telephoto sensor.
6.7-inch OLED Display
As for the display on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the 6.7-inch OLED display is expected to have a resolution of 2,160 x 3,040.
The panel will also support Samsung’s signature “Infinity-O” hole-punch camera design, which was first seen on the S10 5G. Other than the camera hole, the display is said to be a standard OLED panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz and support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
5G and Bluetooth — Not 3.0
As for the Exynos 9820 processor that powers the Z Fold 4, the chip is expected to have a 5G modem capable of delivering 10 gigabits per second.
The chip is also expected to have a new version of the company’s M8 chip, which is used in all of its other flagships. The M8 chip in the Z Fold 4 is said to be called the M10, and it’s expected to have improved AI performance and a revamped security system.
This would be the first Samsung chip to support Bluetooth 5.0, which will come in handy when connecting to the Z Fold 4’s dedicated Bixby button.
However, the M10 chip is expected to support the older version of BLE rather than the newer version 4. The Exynos 9820 chip is also expected to have a 14-nanometer architecture, a first for Samsung’s flagship chips.
Will it be the Z Fold 4 or just the Fold 4?
Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is shaping up to be the best folding phone Samsung has ever made.
The Z Fold 4 is expected to have an advanced triple-lens camera system, a 48MP f/1.5 primary sensor, and a 6.7-inch OLED display with support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
The new chip powering the phone — the Exynos 9820 — is also a significant upgrade over the Exynos 9810 in the S10 5G. The M10 chip has been redesigned to better support next-generation connectivity standards such as 5G and Bluetooth 5.0.
And while the S10 5G is also expected to be a powerful device, the Z Fold 4 has one major advantage — it’s a folding phone. Samsung’s folding device line is expected to be the most premium lineup of folding phones, which makes the Z Fold 4 the highest-end folding phone.
